Trash is picked up on Mondays and Thursdays and recycling is collected on Wednesdays.

Do not place any trash on the circle or so that it is surrounding mailboxes. Please place trash out for collection after dark on Sunday/Wednesday or early Monday/Thursday so it can be picked up as early as 6 AM and please make sure everything is securely wrapped and bagged so we do not have garbage or loose trash flying around.   Place recycling out after dark on Tuesday or before 6 am on Wednesday.  Securely place all recycling in boxes, recycling bins and paper trash bags - do not use plastic bags for recycling.

Please pay attention to contract limits and be neat - if you wouldn't want to pick it up, then neither will anyone else!

Trash Removal & Recycling

Trash
Champion Services, Inc.

Effective February 1, 2023, all garbage/trash is removed Mondays and Thursdays except for
  • New Year's Day (January 1)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • Labor Day (1st Monday in September)
  • Thanksgiving Day (November - varies but always a Thursday)
  • Christmas Day (December 25)
In a week with one of the above holidays, trash pickups are on the next regularly scheduled trash collection day - there are no makeup day collections.  Recycling is separately collected on Wednesdays.  Do not place garbage out with recycling.

Put your regular trash out no earlier than the evening before (secured in cans), or on the morning of (sealed in heavy plastic bags) scheduled trash collection.  Trash collection can be made as early as 6:00 AM so please put it out before then.

Please use firmly closed garbage cans - especially for any trash left out overnight.  Trash left out on the day of pickup must be at a minimum in heavy black garbage bags - no light-weight store bags, white kitchen bags, or open containers of garbage may be left out.  If you have particularly smelly garbage, please double bag it to deter animals (spraying a bag with vinegar or ammonia will also help deter critters). This will help cut down on wildlife rummaging through garbage and helps keep our community cleaner and safer.

In the event trash collection has been completed by the time you take yours to the curb, please take it back to your home to await the next trash pickup.  Do not place your trash in another homeowner's receptacle and do not place your regular garbage out with recycling that is awaiting pickup.

Recycling will only be picked up on Wednesdays between 6 am and 9 pm and must not be placed out earlier than Tuesday evening.  Loose paper and small boxes should be consolidated (ideally within larger boxes or paper bags) to prevent them from blowing around.  Cardboard boxes must be flattened and stacked together outside of recycling toters.  Acceptable materials included cardboard and mixed paper, metal food and beverage containers, plastic bottles and jugs.   Fairfax County cannot process plastic bags and plastic packing materials in their recycling shredders.  Please separate plastic packing materials and place them out for regular garbage collection.  See lists to the right of acceptable and unacceptable candidates for recycling.

In case of bad weather, it’s possible that trash may not be collected. To find out if Champion Services is planning to pick up trash, please visit cswaste.com under "service alert" If they state that they will not pick up garbage that day, please store it until the next pickup day - do not put it out.

Christmas tree collection will be on two scheduled days TBD before January 15 each year.  All trees must be clean and free from decorations and debris.  Schedules will be made available 30 days prior to collection.

BULK TRASH PICKUP SERVICES:

Bulk items that are burnable and weigh less than 40 lbs. can be disposed of at no additional cost.  Bulk items that exceed 40 lbs. may qualify for removal at an additional charge depending on the item (scheduled On-Demand).  Individual residents' bulk items that exceed the above specifications can be collected and disposed of at an additional charge to the individual residents through Champion's partner, HaulShare.

You are not limited to using HaulShare and may use any independent junk removal service for getting rid of construction waste or unwanted household items.  Several offer convenient in-home collection. Consider donating gently used items and clothing to the Salvation Army center down the street - they are open almost every day and will give you a receipt for tax deduction purposes.

Requesting and paying for bulk items via HaulShare

In the case of same-day pick-ups, call 703-239-8450 ext 4 - select Option#4 to schedule, pay and receive service Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Individuals can also request services at  https://www.cswaste.com/junk-pick-up/,
NO DUMPING!
Do not dispose of any debris in the Fairfax County park area (near the stream) or on LRMHA property.

Yard Waste

Yard debris may be placed in small quantities for collection on regular trash days.  Fairfax County prohibits the use of plastic bags for yard waste collection.  Brush and small branches up to 3 inches in diameter should be cut into 3x3 foot lengths, bundled and tied securely.  Wood logs, large branches, loose debris, sod, and dirt are prohibited.

Do not dispose of yard waste in the common areas, or in the park or stream on the south end of the neighborhood.   The park is Fairfax County parkland, and also a protected Chesapeake Bay Watershed area.   Dumping of any materials, including yard waste, downed limbs and trees, rocks, dirt, etc. is prohibited and punishable by fines.

Trash receptacles and recycling bins may not be stored outside of rear yard fences or in front of your homes unless completely concealed from view by shrubbery.  Please remove them promptly and store them out of sight after trash pickup.
In all cases, garbage containers must be well maintained – no broken, discolored, unlidded, or brightly colored garbage containers or enclosures that will call attention to their presence should be placed in front of a home.
Garbage placed outside in cans must be placed within securely closed black plastic garbage bags.  Garbage and trash other than recycling or yard waste that is placed out for pickup without a can should be double bagged within large black plastic garbage bags and may be placed out for collection Sunday/Wednesday evening or Monday/Thursday morning before 6:00 AM.   Paper bags, grocery bags and thin white wastebasket bags have insufficient strength to prevent animals from tearing them open and scattering the contents and are unsuitable for placing out for collection without being placed inside of a sturdier black trash bag.

Recycling and yard waste must not be placed inside of plastic bags of any kind.  Use the provided blue recycling container, paper lawn waste bags, or gather boxes, bags and other recyclables together in larger boxes to prevent scattering of small items.
____________________________________________
TIP:  Using sturdy 3 mm black plastic contractor bags as the outer bag will more effectively deter predation by crows, black vultures, raccoons, and foxes.
Please be considerate of your neighbors when bagging your garbage and pick up any spilth in the event your bags tear or are improperly closed.
