Spring 2018 Newsletter
LITTLE RIVER MEWS SPRING NEWSLETTER
Annual Meeting :
It’s that time of year already! This year’s Annual Meeting will be held on June 21st, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Mason District Government Center. The address for the Center is 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale VA, 22003. Light refreshments will be served.
There are three (3) spots open on the Board this year. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please fill out an absentee ballot form voting for a total of three (3) people. You can select either the current members who are on the ballot, your own write-ins, or a combination of the two. Please be advised that homeowners must be in good standing in order to serve as Board members. This means they must have no outstanding dues or violations. Only one member of a household can serve on the Board at any given time.
We need a quorum of 10 people in order to hold the Annual Meeting. This means either 10 owners must he present or we must have enough proxies in addition to owners present to account for 10 people. A proxy form is included with the packet received from Northern Virginia Management. We strongly encourage owners who know they cannot make the meeting to designate a proxy as we are forced by law to reschedule the meeting if we do not get a quorum. Having to schedule multiple meetings can result in higher dues as it generates extra charges that are not in the budget. Please complete both the proxy form and the absentee ballot if you will be unable to attend the meeting.
You should have received your paperwork regarding the meeting in the mail already. If you have not, please contact Northern Virginia Management for a copy.
Trash and Recycling :
Trash pickup is on Monday and Thursday. Recycling is picked up only on Thursday. American sometimes comes out quite early, so please try to get your trash out before 8 AM on pickup days. Do not put trash out before Sunday or Wednesday evening. Bags and cans look unsightly when left out for days. Raccoons and rats rip open unsecured bags left out too long and scatter waste around the property. Rats are carriers of many harmful human diseases and can easily infiltrate houses. While raccoons might look cute, we don’t want to encourage them to prowl for food as they present a danger to people and pets through rabies, flea, tick and mite exposure as well as diseases spread through their waste. Keeping our trash contained and stored properly will go a long way to keeping vermin out of the neighborhood and our houses.
Updated Architectural Guidelines :
The Architectural Guidelines have received a much needed overhaul! We have updated the guidelines for clarity. A copy of the guidelines has been sent to all homeowners by mail. The guidelines can also be found on our website at the following URL: http://littlerivermews.org/lrm-architectural-guidelines/. If you have any questions about the suitability of a planned change to your property, please do not hesitate to contact the Board for clarification.
Yard Sale:
Due to scheduling conflicts, the Community Yard Sale has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 24th from 10 AM to 2 PM. A flyer with further information will be sent out closer to that date. Members of the Board will have a table in the traffic circle with light refreshments for residents. Please join us even if you’re not participating in the yard sale and meet some of your neighbors!
Parking :
Towing in The Mews is enforced daily, between the hours of 6 PM and 9 AM. All cars must display either a permit or a hang tag during this time. Please be mindful of these hours to avoid a costly towing. While each unit has a Reserved spot, any vehicle parked in said spot during towing hours MUST display either a permit on the rear bumper or a guest hang tag. Any car without a permit or hang tag is still subject to towing from Reserved spots.
THE GUEST HANG TAGS WILL BE CHANGING THIS YEAR!! In an effort to better serve the community by making sure no one has more than the allotted total of three(3) parking stickers and/or guest passes, we are updating the parking register. Residents should bring their current green and white passes with them to the table run by the Board during the Community Yard Sale. At that time we will confirm all registered vehicles and distribute the new passes. The current green and white passes will be active until July 31st. Any vehicle displaying a green and white pass starting on August 1, 2018 will be towed. There will be no change to the bumper stickers.
After the Yard Sale, anyone who was not able to be present to trade in their hang tags may do so in person by bringing their passes to Karyn Selko at 4518. Please also see Karyn to register a new vehicle or get a replacement permit. Prior to June 24th, please continue to see Julie at 4511 after 8PM for any parking needs.
